1.1. What is a
domain name and why should I register one?
A domain name tells people (and the computers
they use) how to find your website or homepage on the Internet.
Each domain name is assigned to a numerical IP (Internet Protocol)
address by your host provider. Internet domain names provide
a system of easy-to-remember Internet addresses which are
translated by DNS (Domain Name Servers) into numeric IP.
An Internet domain name is unique and allows you to have an
"identity" on the Internet. Domain names are typically allocated
by the domain registrars on a "first come, first served" basis
- currently in excess of 200,000 domain names are being registered
per month!
You should register your domain name NOW as in the near future
most of the memorable domain names will have been taken and
only obscure domain names will remain.
Registering a domain name for your business or organization
is essential to your marketing efforts. It adds value to your
Internet presence and gives your business a unique identity
on the World-Wide Web and is therefore of great value to your
organization. Remember domain names are not just for businesses
or organizations - many people register names for their own
personal use.
Your registered domain name could be:
Web site address: http://www.your-domain-name.com
Email addresses: name@your-domain-name.com

1.2. What details
do I need to register a domain?
We need the name, address and contact details
of the person or company the domain name is to be registered
to.

details. Payment details (credit card, money order or certified
cheque) - credit card is preferred since we can process the
domain name immediately. Please note unless you are a reseller
of us the name on the Credit Card must be the same as the
domain name administrator or billing address. This only applies
to Credit Card payments and you might choose other payment
methods, if you want to register for somebody else.

name, your company name or product names on the Internet.
You want to be locatable. Your domain name can be viewed

1.5. What if my
desired name is the same as a trademarked name?
Generally, if you've registered the name in
good faith, it's not a name belonging to an internationally
known company, and you can show that you have a legitimate
reason to use that name, then you are likely to be able to
keep that name. That may not be the case if it can be shown
that you purchased the name for the express purpose of re-selling
it to a company with a legitimate claim to the name. Please
see the Uniform
Dispute Resolution Policy for details.

1.6. Once a name
is registered, who "owns" the domain name?
The domain name "registrant" is the person
or organization listed at the top of the WHOIS database record.
To lookup the owner of a domain name click
here. The "registrant" is the individual or organization
that registers a specific domain name.
This individual or organization holds the right to use that
specific domain name for a specified period of time, provided
certain conditions are met and the registration fees are paid.
This person or organization is the "legal entity" bound by
the Terms and Conditions and Domain Name Registration Agreements.
The administrative, technical and billing contacts are individuals
who the organization trusts to handle issues involving the
domain name record.

1.7. How do I choose
a good domain name? What to do if my choice has gone?
Choose a name that reflects the intent and
purpose of your web site or business. Try to keep it short
and snappy, and say it out loud, as if you were telling someone
at a party to visit your web page. Some domain names look
good on paper, but are confusing when you try to send someone
to them over the phone. When facing a large number of choices,
the snappiest domain sometimes grabs the most attention.
If your 1st choice has gone, try a variation. Your company
name is John smith engineering but johnsmithengineering.com
has already been secured the following variations are relevant
to your business.
- jsmithengineering.com
- jsenginnering.com
- john-smithengineering.com
- j-smithengineering.com
Or you may add a relevant word or number such as a 4, the
word online, web or even your city:
- 4johnsmithengineering.com
- johnsmithengineering-online.com
- johnsmithengineering-onweb.com
- johnsmithengineering-york.com

2.2. I have an
e-mail which says that my domain has been registered, but
I can't get to my web site with my domain? Why?
When you receive the e-mail confirming the
registration of your new domain, there are many more steps
still to be done behind the scenes. Your domain will be entered
into the WHOIS database, and your registration must travel
to all the ISPs in the world. It will be 24-48 hours after
you receive the confirmation e-mail before you will be able
to go to your domain with your web browser.

2.3. How can I
make modifications, change the name servers or switch ISPs
for my domain?
When you register a domain name you select
a user name and a password and create a profile. By default
our nameservers host your domain name but immediately after
registration you can access to online domain
administration site to make modifications to your domain
including the name servers. When you switch ISPs the new ISP
gives you the name of domain name servers that you must enter
to change your ISP.

3.2. What does
it mean to "park" or "point" a domain name?
In order for you to register a domain name
you need a Domain Name System (DNS) server to host it. When
you register a domain name with us, we are hosting your domain
name on our DNS. We are holding or "parking" the domain name
for you. We point your domain name to an " Under Construction
Page" so that your website visitors know that it will
be available soon. One of the services that we offer is called
Register
and Point . We register your name and create a record
in our DNS server. The domain name points to an existing website
with a static IP address.
You have the option to move your domain name off of our servers
to another Internet Service Provider (ISP) or Host provider
at any time at no extra charge. You may make any modifications
by logging in the Domain
Admin area.

3.3. What is Web
hosting?
Web hosting is providing space on a server
connected to the Internet for you so that you can use your
registered domain name to identify your website. You do not
have to sign up for our web hosting package in order to register
a domain name but if you take a look at what you get you probably
don't want to miss the deal.

3.4. What is encryption
(SSL)?
That is the way online transactions and data
collection may be secured against third party onlookers. Almost
95% of our customers pay by Credit Cards using a secure form.
This is how Netscape describes SSL: SSL uses authentication
and encryption technology developed by RSA Data Security Inc.
The encryption established between you and a server remains
valid over multiple connections, yet the effort expended to
defeat the encryption of one message cannot be leveraged to
defeat the next message. A message encrypted with 40-bit RC4
takes on average 64 MIPS-years to break (a 64-MIPS computer
needs a year of dedicated processor time to break the message's
encryption). The high-grade, 128-bit U.S. domestic version
provides protection exponentially more vast. The effort required
to break any given exchange of information is a formidable
deterrent.
